Prairie Sage Buffalo "DJ" KWE

A Turntable in One Hand...Her Heart in the Other

Prairie Sage Buffalo - DJ KWE

Profile and Message from the Artist

There is always hope...

Once upon a time on a mountain far far away, a gentle spirit was ignited and a baby girl was born on that very special day. She was born on North Shore Mountains of great hope and passion; unfortunately, she experienced a life not fit for any soul. This baby grew into a tough girl, blossomed into a sad teenager, then tripped and fell into womanhood as she learned life the hard way. To everyone's surprise, she keeps picking up pieces of her puzzling life despite the odds and negativity. No amount of violence, sadness, or despair could ever break that one hope she kept so very close to her heart. She hoped her pain would stop long enough to feel good about herself again. Her only path was to find harmony between her white and red world, later to realize she was the very balance she was seeking.

Prairie Sage Buffalo "DJ" KWE was selected to represent the Nation of Canada in a battle of DJs from Canada, the USA, and the UK. She captured the WIN and was featured in local newspapers and radio. KWE has compiled, mixed, and released 10 non-stop house mix CDs, showcasing her first four years as a professional DJ and the vast knowledge she has absorbed during a decade of diligently following the electronic music scene. In 2004, KWE was interviewed on Canada's national Music television Station, Much Music, in celebration of National Aboriginal Day. She represented her community as one of the few female Aboriginal DJs in Canada. Sponsored by those who believe in her, she continues to tour Canada for Youth involvement in the Wax Warrior movement. In 2006, she released her first full length CD "The Electronic Drum", fusing Aboriginal singing and drumming with house music. She is a radio show host, published writer, awarded DJ and respected Youth Advocate. She will always be a survivor!

I'm proud to share with you some of my achievements that I earned in the past 3 years let alone the mountains I have moved in my 33 years on this earth. It's moments like these when you realize that you do your best work in the hardest times. From streets to front stage, I offer you the soundtrack of my life through my producing ways and my DJ days.

I offer you my experiences as hope that life can get better one day at a time. My music is dedicated to the inspiration of youth, young-at-heart and all spirits out there that are struggling. Imagine traditional singing with House music beats that tease the atmosphere to keep you dancing for hours. The bass blankets the floor as you experience me engineering tribal tones using vinyl. Use our sacred dancing steps and open your world to the life-force of bass. Use our sacred words to shelter others with wisdom and positivity. Use our sacred music and lift spirits beyond the map and into a world of unity through Aboriginal House music that cares. It could be your Soul Support.

How can you help others unless you truly know what will aid them in their healing? I assure you that my bruises and scars will only help me storm through life weathering the negative and yours will too. I know what can help a community when I'm a part of it. Accepting my Métis Nation has taught me that violence and racism walk hand and hand when you don't put your foot down. I have chosen to walk softly on Mother Earth with humility on the inside and braids on the outside. Embracing balance that brings traditional treasures to contemporary measures gives life a whole new meaning.

I spent my whole life trying to find a family, group, and community to belong to. But that's what you do when you're trying to fit in a dysfunctional and abusive life. So I have learned lessons that give me insight, into my right, to fight for my life, to reach beyond the sunlight. I am starving for others because I'm hungry for justice and that's my beef. What more can I say?

And so, it was that very spirit, baby girl, young woman, and soul-full of Woman-ness that decided to take advice from the mountains and never stop climbing despite her falling. To keep believing in her word and song as she records her voice for music tracks. She extends her hands beyond her Upper Turtle Island roots to share her message with the world. She gives her heart and soul by performing at youth events and karmic gigs. Looking way past the geographical borders and creating an international network that gives from the heart through music. Somehow, amidst the chaos of her healing life, she finds hope in her record collection and gave birth to Urban Indian Productions. Those mountains of hope and passion she was born on, surround her with nature and nurture, again. It is the trees and the wind that carry her Wax Warrior message through radio waves now. She lives to write her story once again. No matter what happens, KWE will face the music with a turntable in one hand and her heart in the other.

"Give us one inch of land and we'll feed our community. Give us 12 inches of vinyl and we'll feed the world"
